How would you describe your sexuality?
I am a bi female. At present I am the partner of another female. Since the age of about 12, I have had BDSM fantasies. One of my earliest recollections of this was from some bubblegum cards my brother collected which featured women tied up and flogged. I think the set was called something like 'horrors of war'.
By the time I was 16 I was reading the famous Gor books with their scenes of female slaves, and finding them deeply erotic. I went on to read De Sade's Justine and Juliet.
By the time I reached my 20s I found I had a big interest in bondage, and what might be called 'forced sex play'. I like to play at being ravished, especially while bound. Very few partners were willing to play these games with me and my sexuality had very little outlet in that respect for many years. That really led me to question 2
What role has "violent pornography" played in your life?
Lacking partners to play my games I mostly lapsed into looking at what the government would call violent pornography. On finding SM magazines, I was amazed to realise that I wasn't actually alone, and wasn't so very different after all. Much later I found a partner who understood and was equally adventurous.
I should stress all of these games are purely roleplay - they have nothing to do with real violence anymore than children playing cops and robbers has to do with violent crime. My partner would always stop if I asked them to.
It took me until my 40s to really understand I was pretty normal and that lots of people have fantasises that perhaps seem odd to others.
What do you think of the UK government's proposal to ban "violent pornography"?
I think it's disgraceful that normal people like me, who perhaps like to indulge in something that's a bit different, should be threatened with 3 years in prison for engaging in an activity which hurts no-one. All of the so-called violent porn I have seen has clearly been acted out, and the same girls have appeared time and again in the same magazines. Clearly like me they enjoy what they do. I met a model from one of the magazines at a party and she told me she liked to be spanked and caned.
Why should completely law-abiding people like me be criminalised out of what is, basically, prudishness? I haven't taken a penny from the state in benefits, have raised two wonderful children, have worked all my life and now it seems that I am just to be a criminal.
I have always voted Labour because I believe in social justice, but if this bill is passed this government will definitely NEVER see my vote again.
