A Q&A with UKRudegirl
Backlash asks sexual adventurer, UK Rudegirl about porn
Do you think all porn is woman hatred?
No - that is an absurd statement. Pornography originated as the written
word and translates from the Greek as "writings of a whore". It is primarily about eroticism
and arousal - it's principal use is as a masturbatory icon. Yes, someone
could be masturbating looking at pornography and screaming "I hate you" but
that is more the exception I would suggest and in that case their psychosis
would not be assuaged by the removal of the pornography.
Do you think feminists who criticise pornography as objectification of women
have a point?
No, I think they are merely ill informed or possibly resentful. Part of the
way our 'attraction and arousal system' works is by a series of small
'fetishes' - that is why one is attracted to some people rather than
others. "I am attracted to nice eyes or nice boobs or big shoulders or
his/her moustache" all objectify the other party if one follows the
objectification argument 'reductio ad absurdum'. I am comfortable in my skin
thus do not feel threatened by pornography and therefore I do not object to
it. Serious feminists should be concerning themselves with the 'glass
ceiling' in the professions and business and issues such as why there is VAT
on tampons and pads - the real abuse of women - of course that isn't such a
headline grabber.
Should pornography be banned?
Pointless exercise. Prohibition does not work. Simple example - drug misuse. Banning it will not stop it - merely make it more expensive.
Can porn provide positive models for women?
Yes, for those in need of models to copy.
Do you think the liberalisation of access to pornography has had a positive effect for women?
I don't think it has made a difference one way or the other.
Do you think there are any acts that it is dangerous for people to look at?
No.
Do you think there are some pictures that are dangerous?
Only very big ones, if they fall on you although I once got a papercut from a photograph.
Have you any other comments about pornography?
Laurence Pay sums it up well in his paper Sex, Pornography and Censorship

main women's page

The internet is a convenient scapegoat for society's ills.
The UK government is to legislate how best to imprison potentially many people for viewing content on the internet.
How should governments regulate the details of our personal lives and control individual expression ?
Preserve Individual Freedoms
Backlash campaigns to ensure the right remedies are applied to the right problems.
Whilst doing so we preserve hard won individual rights and liberties.
See no evil.
The government doesn't want you to view certain images. And will send you to prison if you possess them. Even in the privacy of your own home.
