Shooting the Messenger
The internet is a convenient scapegoat for society's ills.
The UK government is currently considering how best to imprison potentially many people for viewing some images.
How should governments regulate the details of our personal lives and control individual expression ?
Prime Minister conflicted
.... there are areas in which the State, or the community, no longer has a role or, if it does have one, it is a role that is completely different. It is not for the State to tell people that they cannot choose a different lifestyle, for example in issues to do with sexuality.
Preserve Individual Freedoms
Backlash campaigns to ensure the right remedies are applied to the right problems.
Whilst doing so we preserve hard won individual rights and liberties.

The responses to the Home Office Consultation have now been released to the public domain, and are here for downloading.
Some responses have not been included under
Section 31(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information Act, which absolves the
Government from disclosing information where disclosure would
prejudice the apprehension or prosecution of offenders. Others that are withheld
are probably ones that the authors wished to be kept private.
The responses are in the form of Acrobat PDF files. All are in image form and none can be saved as text directly. The files are very large - two are nearly 30MB. You will therefore need a fast connection, and should download them, not open them directly, as you will not read them in one session.
In some cases there are alternative links via which to obtain specific responses.
