An interview with Kathie, who appeared in 'violent pornography'
Kathie, you don't appear in bdsm or 'violent pornography' regularly or as a job, but some years ago you were in some of the most extreme videos and Internet images ever seen. Why did you do it?
Humm, that is a very interesting question. As I sit here and think about it the only thing I can come up with is why the hell not. I was young and driven by passion. My biggest concern at the time was that my face didn't appear in any of the images. I wanted to show people how extreme I could be and hard I could really push the envelope. I wanted to throw it in peoples faces. I guess that sounds almost militant or radical.
How did it relate to anything you might have done before, as an SM scene for instance?
I had never done anything that extreme before making the pornographic material. Up until that point I had just fantasized about some of those things.
How did you hear about the producer and how did you get in contact?
A dear friend of mine knew the person and helped to make the introduction. I really didn't need much help. Once he heard that I wanted to have my tits nailed to a board he just wanted to know I was serious. Once he could confirm my sincerity we planned a meeting which involved that making of extreme pornographic material.
Was the experience as you expected? How did you feel about it afterwards?
The experience was just as I had expected. The high I got from the extreme act was more than I could have ever imagined. I felt as if I could have crawled over broken glass to do it all over again.
How did you decide what was to happen? Did you ever feel you were being made to do more than you wanted/agreed?
Before meeting we discussed various things that we were both interested in. From there the producer decided what would and wouldn't be done. At no time did I ever feel as if I couldn't handle anything that was being done to me.
You may have done similar things in private. How did you feel about this being publicly available?
I have done a lot of the things I did for public consumption privately. I have no problem with any of the videos or photos being available to the public. I am sure there are still of those photos and videos out there being viewed by people all around the world.
What do you feel about the claims made by Government ministers and members of Parliament in the UK*? Obviously that wasn't your experience, but do you think it could be true for other people? Do you feel you need laws to protect you from such things?
I am an American and am a registered republican. So my tendency is for less government. I want to be safe and want to be able to live my life with as little infringement from the government. So I do not agree with the laws being proposed by the UK government. I also don't think that will protect anyone. All they will do is force such activities further underground and make things less safe.
Do you feel your sexual interest in these activities affects you or makes you a different person outside of the bedroom/dungeon?
In some ways I think it makes me stronger. I know that I can time some of the most extreme things a human body can handle and that gives me power. A secure sense of confidence that most people don't have.
Do you know other people who make bdsm porn? Are their experiences different from yours, and in what way?
Not really. I knew of some of the other people that this producer worked with, but I was never really friends or friendly with any of them. I was friends with the producer's partner and she also participated. From what I understand she also got the same enjoyment and rush that I did.
*Martin Salter MP said on Radio5live:
"With images now available in cyberspace, from sites often hosted in Mexico, Florida, Guatemala, featuring sometimes at the more extreme end of the market snuff movies where people from impoverished backgrounds are raped, tortured, murdered on camera and the images then put out there for private profit and for extreme sexual gratification."
Other Government quotes say the women are weak-willed and vulnerable and coerced.
I think Mr Salter is just trying to make his point with bits and pieces of information that might or might not be true. I also suspect he is making blanket generalizations in order to give this the "oh my god" factor and really make it sound ugly. I am far from a weak-willed and vulnerable person. I am strong and have a mind of my own. There isn't anyone out there that could make me do something I didn't want to do. Are there others who are weak and vulnerable, sure. Are there people who are used and abused, maybe. But not everyone involved is. I suspect that it is really a very small percentage who are. Outlawing this sort of activity will only make people want it more. The black market effect will only make these activities more taboo, which I believe is a bad thing.

The internet is a convenient scapegoat for society's ills.
The UK government is to legislate how best to imprison potentially many people for viewing content on the internet.
How should governments regulate the details of our personal lives and control individual expression ?

The government doesn't want you to view certain images. And will send you to prison if you possess them. Even in the privacy of your own home.
